Massage Therapy

Massage therapy is a holistic treatment using a range of techniques which aims to relieve muscular tension and pain as well as encourage relaxation and overall vitality and well-being. We have a team of massage therapists who offer a range of different massages, listed below. If you would like additional information or to introduce yourself before you come in, please contact us.

Holistic Massage – 60, 90 & 120 mins

Holistic is derived from the Greek word Holos meaning whole and this massage treats you as a whole person rather than just your symptoms using a variety of techniques that help to restore health and well-being both physiologically and psychologically.

Rather than a standard full body massage each treatment is tailored to your individual needs, giving more attention where it is most needed so you may gain maximum benefit.

Holistic massage is extremely therapeutic and has a many benefits such as calming the nervous system, relieving muscular tension and improving joint mobility, strengthening the immune system, stimulating digestion, increasing energy levels and releasing ‘feel good’ endorphins.

It is the perfect treatment to help relax, revitalise, ground and centre you on all levels: physical, mental and emotional.

Deep Tissue Massage – 60, 90 & 120 mins

This massage treatment generally uses some similar techniques as Holistic, but with firmer pressure and slower movement along with techniques that allow for penetration of the deeper muscle layers with a particular emphasis on releasing chronic tension, knots and muscle pain.

Deep tissue massage helps to refresh and relax muscles by breaking up and reducing scar tissue and adhesions, releasing deeply-held patterns of tension and stress. This aids the removal of toxins and increases and improves blood and oxygen circulation aiding better transportation of nutrients throughout the body.

This deeper style of massage may sometimes cause some tenderness during the treatment and the following day due to the muscles releasing stored tension and toxins.  Please be assured the therapist will maintain communication and work within your pain threshold.

Pregnancy Massage – 60 & 90 mins

Pregnancy massage is a wonderful experience which provides the much needed support for a body going through major changes, helping preparation for birth.

This treatment is calming and de-stressing for a Mum-to-be. Tailored to ensure the comfort of mother and baby it can help many minor ailments experienced during pregnancy, ease sore and tight muscles and help to create a nurturing environment.

To assist the health and well-being during pregnancy, benefits of this massage include the release of tension and stiffness in the back, neck and hips, the increase of lymphatic drainage which helps to reduce swelling in hands and feet and the calming of anxiety during pregnancy. It can also help to promote restful sleep and prevent pregnancy related insomnia.

Massage in pregnancy is safe and only an organic oil base is used without added essential oils. However, if there any complications during your pregnancy, approval from the primary health care provider might be required prior to the treatment.

Please note: Pregnancy Massage is not available during the 1st trimester.

Manual Lymphatic Drainage (Dr. Vodder Method) – 60 & 90 mins

This non-oil based, gentle massage is extremely relaxing and includes techniques of very light hand movements and precise long rhythmic strokes with a little pressure. The aim is to move the lymph* toward the lymph nodes (glands) to cleanse the body of accumulated waste and toxins, excess water and bacteria.

The treatment is both preventive and remedial and stimulates vital immune defences. It is effective in alleviating toxic build up, hormonal imbalances (i.e. PMS or Menopause), fluid retention (i.e. bloating or after surgery) and can be used to improve skin quality (i.e. cellulites or stretch marks). Other conditions that respond effectively to MLD are migraine, hay fever, rheumatism, stress, anxiety as well as recurring infections such as cold, flu, ear and chest.

It is also an effective component of the treatment and control of Lymphoedema and assists in conditions arising from venous insufficiency.

During the consultation at the beginning of the treatment, the therapist will discuss a treatment plan tailored to the individual.

*Lymph is the fluid carried by the body’s immune system. It is transported to the neck where it empties into the circulatory system.

Abdominal Sacral Massage Therapy – 120, 90 & 75 mins

Abdominal-Sacral Massage is a treatment that involves deep massage of the organs within the abdominal area and of the sacral/coccyx areas.

The treatment helps to bring back into alignment the visceral organs, releasing pressure and strengthening the surrounding muscles and ligaments within the pelvic area. This in turn will improve blood, nerve and lymph flow. In addition, the deep colon massage helps to loosen harden debris (that has been living in your gut for years) and encourages a natural movement.

Abdominal-Sacral Massage not only addresses the physical dysfunction but can also help with the release of emotional trauma.  The stomach, sometimes called the second brain, has more nerve cells than the spinal cord and develops in the foetus from the same tissue as the cerebral brain.  This gives it the ability to record information in the same way only the rather than thoughts, it records feelings ‘butterflies in the stomach’ being an example.

Some of the more common symptoms relieved by this treatment are:

  • PMS
  • Painful or irregular Periods
